Welcome to Cottonwood Hills

An Overview

" The words 'Golf Course' say it all:  the Golfer and the Course must come first; if not, then you're just another business."

  A Brief History
Established in 1984, Cottonwood Hills Golf Club is the Gallatin Valley's first and foremost public golf facility.  The golf course was originally built as a 9 hole facility to later be expanded to a full Championship 18.  During the expansion in 1994, the Club made a brilliant decision to move the driving range to the north of the parking lot and construct an Executive Par 3 Course where the previous range was.  This is just one of many attributes that make this Golf Course a truly complete and superior facility.  As with everything you see at Cottonwood Hills, the Course and the Golfers come first.  Every ounce of effort is made to ensure that Cottonwood Hills Golf Club remains the most prominent public facility in the Valley; offering some of the best golf you will ever play.

The Executive Course and Practice Facility
Every great player will attest to the importance of the short game.  This fact makes Cottonwood Hills your greatest asset; as it is the only facility to offer an Executive Par 3 Course.  The Executive Course at Cottonwood Hills is no putt-putt either.  It consists of seven par 3s and two par 4s and is guaranteed to improve the playing ability of every level of golfer.  Nowhere else in the Gallatin Valley can a beginner actually play golf without the pressure of being on a full-length course; and nowhere else can the Professional realistically test their short game.

No course would be complete without a full length Driving Range, and Cottonwood Hills is no exception.  The 300 yard Driving Range consists of numerous mounds at different yardages to hit shots to; including two chipping mounds for short game practice.  There is even a separate sand bunker and practice green to help wear down your sand wedge.

Finally, the large additional Putting Green is situated right next to the Clubhouse, the first tee, and the tenth tee.  The Putting Green is maintained precisely to the standards of our Championship Greens; giving you the actual feel of the course before you even start your round.

At Cottonwood Hills Golf Club, there no longer exists a gap between practice and the real experience.

  The Infamous Greens
Built upon tried and tested USGA standards, the greens are professionally designed, constructed, and contoured.  They are French drained, multilayered, sand greens seeded with bentgrass.  Countless hours of work and maintenance are dedicated to keeping the greens in immaculate condition.  Nothing else in golf comes close to the feeling of watching a perfectly struck put find the center of a cup; something that is next to impossible on bad greens.  At Cottonwood Hills Golf Club you will know what it feels like to play on "tour quality greens".

  The Pristine Fairways
Nearly every tournament is won from the fairways.  If a player plays from perfect lies, then a perfect shot can be achieved.  Welcome to Cottonwood Hills.  Our bluegrass fairways are meticulously maintained to ensure that divots heal faster, and shots land softer.  Striking the ball from our smooth freshly mown fairways is the only way to go.

  The Layout and Design
Flowing, natural, and practical; Cottonwood Hills yields itself to the land that contains it.  The design is non-invasive and the course was not forced where it does not belong.  Each and every detail owes its tribute to the natural beauty of the land as God created it.  The rolling hills provide strong and sometimes subtle contour; while the two meandering canals that gracefully run their course give life to an abundance of cottonwood trees and numerous species of wildlife.  Hundreds of native trees have been planted to give depth and additional beauty to many of the holes.

One might say it is a pretty place; however, "pretty" is much too delicate of a word to describe the Links at Cottonwood Hills.  For within this sleeping beauty lies a far more exacting test of golf.  In case the rating of 1.6 strokes over par and the slope of 137 is not enough; here are some of the features to look forward to.  Three holes conclude within an amphitheatre of cottonwood trees that tower to over 100 feet.  All players must face water hazards that come into play on two-thirds of the holes.  Even the numerous sand bunkers require a full repertoire of shot making ability; from the casual fairway bunker to the high lipped pot bunkers.

The Club is continually looking at ways to meet the challenging shifts in the world of golf.  The current length of Cottonwood Hills, a hefty 6971 yards, effortlessly stands up to the best golfers around.  Soon, even the length will increase beyond 7000 yards as we look to expand another Par 4 into and very crucial, risk/reward Par 5.  From the tee to the green there is no compromise.

A golf course must continue to evolve while at the same time remain true to its heritage.  Cottonwood Hills Golf Club has been there all along.  The flexible design of the course allows the beginning, intermediate, and advanced golfer to feel right at home.  There are four sets of tees to be fair to everyone, and each tee appropriately presents the golf course to that level of player.  Your expectations will be met at Cottonwood Hills, whether you are just passing though or you decide to call it your home course.
